On The Pogrom Against The Tobacco Smokers (II)

Consider, for example, the anti-smoking slogans on the cigarette´s boxes. Yeah, I know that "Smoking can kill" but also I know that the same one holds true for many other items of the everyday life. Why haven´t they put it to the cars too?
"The Health Administration Warning: ´If you buy a car, in the same time you can buy your coffin or a very dangerous killing tool´".
Or they could put it to the pork: "The HA Warning: ´Too much pork can be the cause of your very dangerous health troubles!´" And so on.
But they´ve chosen the tobacco smokers only to my bad luck. You´ve been dependent on nicotine for so many years and now they´ve forced you to let it be. But it hasn´t been so simple, especially if you´ve smoked for so a long time and you yourself haven´t had any such thing in your plan. They´ve imposed on you their own opinion by force, they´ve done it against your free will.
Till that time they´ve proclaimed their opinion freely I haven´t had any objections. I´ve had the chance to decide myself what to do.

We´ve known very well what has happened during the Prohibition in The USA. There are the old truth that the prohibited fruits are better than the permitted. But it has seemed we haven´t still been instructed and we´ve still been repeating the same old wrongs.
We´ve known very well the consequences of the addiction to alcohol and drugs. I´ve been able to observe them in my employment.

There has been a long-termed quarrel in Czech republic: to prohibit or not to prohibit marihuana smoking? At the present time, as long as I´ve known, its cultivation and selling has been prohibited here but if you´ve smoked it nobody has said anything to you. But as I´ve been able to see (in my working routine) the marihuana smoking has caused a lot of mental troubles too, especially with the younger individuals of whose brains have still been developing. Often these mental problems have been irreversible.

I´d dare to claim that the tobacco smoking has been a much lesser threat or evil than drugs and alcohol. The different has been quite clear: unlike the nicotine effects on the brain the drugs and alcohol have changed your consciousness so that you´ve often been losing your control under it.
Besides the present spectrum of chemicals with negative impacts on the central nervous system (CNS) has still been increasing. Where are the times of only several kinds of drugs plus alcohol? The pharmacology and medicine machinery have still brought us floods of other kinds of drugs acting on our brains. And our brains have become dependent on them very easily with all their drawbacks.

I´m a great admirer of Carl Sagan but I can´t agree with his way how he deals with the tobacco smoking in  his other than excellent book The Demon Haunted Earth, A Science as a Candle in the Dark. He depicts in the book how a simple experiment has proved the fact that the tobacco smoking has been  harmful. The simple experiment has been performed on mice. The researchers have put the cigarett´s tar to the half of them on their backs. The second half of them has been intact. After a time the cigarette´s tar has caused a cancer. The intact mice have remained to be health.
But we´ve known of a plenty of other cancerogenous chemicals in our environment. I think that the same experiments on them would lead to the same outcomes.
By the way the cancer can be started with only a permanent press on some organ or tissue.
And what about the high concentrations of car gases in the atmosphere of big cities? We must inhal them wether we want or not!
There are so many cancerogenic and mutagenic chemicals in our environment that we should have no chance to survive. But despite of this fact we´ve kept living. Why has it been possible? Well, I´ve assumed that this has been the matter of our imunity system as well as the matter of the changing concentrations of various harmful chemical and physical influences in our sourroundings.

If I compare the tobacco smoking with the abuse of alcohol and drugs (from cocain, heroine, pervitine to the addictive hypnotics and sedatives including benzodiazepines) I can´t omitt their negative effects not only to the addicts themselves but through them to people around them (from their closest relatives to anybody they´ve met).
The dependent on drugs and alcohol can be very dangerous to themselves as well as to other people with an extreme high probability. There have been a lot of horror like examples of  inadequate behaviours of the persons under influences of drugs and alcohol.
At the present time there have been observed an increasing number of the persons who have mixed alcohol with drugs and vice versa. This way can have much more devastating consequences to the CNS than abusing alcohol only or one kind of a drug.

I don´t deny the indiscriminate behaviour of the tobacco smokers in the times before the pogrom. I think now our politicians have been made use of this against the tobacco smokers in a very successful way. Now the nonsmokers have been up.
But one thing has been sure: the nicotine, the alkaloid from the Nicotiana tabacum, has had no hallucinogenic effects. The nicotine hasn´t changed your consciousness as the heroine or the other psychedelics including alcohol have done it. You can smoke and work in a reliable way ´cause the cognitive functions of your brain aren´t disrupted.

Before a time I´ve read a short but interesting article in my favourite scientific-popular magazine Vesmír (The Universe in English). A scientific team (perhaps from the USA) performed a research of the optimal healthy life style. The results were surprising. The researchers concluded that if you took one aspirin from time to time, if you smoked, if you don´t overeat yourself, if you often walked or cultivated the active motion then you could have a great chance to live for a long time without you were afflicted with some of serious diseases of the modern times.
This article helps me to express  my own idea or experience very well. The man should never be one-sided in anything. Unfortunately, the tendency to be one-sided, i.e. to do the things simpler than they´ve been in the real life, can be very inconsistent.

As usually, also this topic hasn´t been far exhausted. I can promise I will go back to it in some of my futurous blogs.

To the pictures: They don´t illustrate the text strictly. It is not necessary I think. They illustrate one of my recent walks alongside a brook in Záběhlice, one of the Prague sections. There are many willows alongside the brook. Their vitality is incredible.

Moc dobře známe následky nadužívání alkoholu a drog.

Ale my víme o spoustě jiných rakovinotvorných látek v našem životním prostředí.
A co vysoké koncentrace automobilových plynů v ovzduší velkých měst?

On the Pogrom against The Tobacco Smokers (I)

I´ve been a smoker for many years. No wonder then that my attitude to the present pogrom against smoking has been very critical.
And now a bit or something from my smoking history. I´ve been a passive smoker from my craddle. Both my parents were passionate smokers. They smoked with no respects to me and my sister. The tobacco smoking was thought to be a normal activity in the fifties and the sixties of the past century not only in Czechoslovakia but throughout the world. If you see any West movie of that time you´ll find that the cigarette has been almost a neccessary item in it. The smokers were both in the West and the East.
In that time the cigarettes were very cheap in my country. The most expensive cigarettes were the ones from the West. You could chose according to your salary. In that time you could smoke freely anywhere, wether it was in your privacy or in your job.
I´m not the case of a boy smoking from his early age. I disliked smoking as a boy. My parents often wanted me to go to buy the cigarettes for them. I didn´t mind their smoking so much but I hated doing their messenger.
Paradoxically my real smoking begun when I took my first job in the hospital for the old people, i.e. in that time when I was seventeen years old. Since that time I´ve been smoking so far.

As long as I know the tobacco was transported to Europe from America by the first navigators or the first discoverers of this continent where the tobacco was smoked by its natives. Soon the tobacco smoking has found their followers in Europe too. I know that the responses to the tobacco smoking in Europe were strictly negative at the very beginning. There was the death penalty for it in some European countries (some England Kings saw it so radically I think). Nevertheless, the tobacco smoking has overcome this first aversion and it has become the cultural fenomenon for a long period having been lasting so far.
I was born just in ist greatest boom.

Soon after The Velvet Revolution the tobacco smokers have lost their unshakeable position in this country as well as in the other European countries. I´d like to know who has hidden behind this hellish conspiracy. I don´t think that the nonsmokers have had the main word in it. To my opinion the main role in this unfair plot has belonged to the governmental political economy. Somebody in the West had to think out this devilish plan. I´d say that the other governments have accepted it very quickly. There has been the only simple motivation for its realization: The vision of the great and quite easy profit. And all the plan has been built on the claim, as impressive!, that tobacco smoking has been able to kill, i.e. they´ve took care of my life without I´ve asked them for it. Well, I thank you ever so much for your impressive care but I´ve been a free man and I´d like myself to decide wether to smoke or not in a free way. But how can I decide in a free way if they´ve behaved to me like suckers or drug dealers? They´ve exploited my addiction to nicotine.

The authors (politicians) of this anti-tobacco conspiracy or movement have discriminated against the tobacco smokers very untenderly and ruthlessly in their employments as well as in various public places, in offices, in restaurants, in pubs etc.. Ye, I´ve felt to be discriminated. Sometimes some of  the steps against the smokers have bordered on abjection.

Perhaps the worst of all the anti-tobacco measures has been the increasing cost of the cigarettes. The average salary in my profession (I´m the qualified nurse) has been more than lamentable. Besides the increasing cost of the cigarettes surely hasn´t been corresponding with the cost of their production. It has been rather corresponding with the governmental greed and its amorality to the weakest segment of all the addictions which the mankind has been suffered from at the present time. From this point of view the tobacco smokers pogrom has been a poor patch on the much more serious addictive problems of our present global human civilization.
I think that not all our governmental representants have been nonsmokers. V. Havel the first president of our new establishment enjoyned cigarettes. And our present president M. Zeman has been a passionate smoker. Well, they´ve been able to afford it in relation to their salaries and in the same time they´ve been able to support the anti-smoking campaign. Why haven´t they prohibited the tobacco smoking absolutely and forever? It would be lesser canting than the present ambivalent solution.

I´ve been an active tobacco smoker since 1972 and then for the time of 42 years in total. I´ve spent 25 years in the smoking paradise. Now, for the time of the last 17 years, I´ve lived with an increasing feeling of a man afflicted with leprosy in the Middle Ages.

O pogromu proti kuřákům (I)

A teď trocha či něco z mé kuřácké historie.

Inu, vzhledem ke svým platům si to mohou dovolit a současně mohou podporovat anti-kuřáckou kampaň. Proč nezakážou kouření tabáku absolutně a navždy?

My Free Impressions from Paris

The Museum of August Rodin

The building of the Museum has been a part of other massive and tall houses lining both sides of quite a narrow street. We´re lucky ´cause there was no long snakes of fronts before the entrance.
We had to pass through the checking system than we could step to the desk and to buy tickets. The checking system has resembled the same procedure you´ve go through in every aiport.
Then we could go out of the house and we found ourselves in a large court. It has been cobbly. The court has been surrounded by other historical houses, trees and beds of flowers.

We started crossing the place to the house before us in the same line with the first house. This has been the Museum of August Rodin at last. The Rodin´s work has been displayed in a lot of smaller rooms from the ground floor to the first floor. His sculptures have decorated also corridors, entresols and the massive broken stairs of this small castle.

I´ve been no expert for the Rodin´s work, I´ve been an ordinary observer the art only. I´ve read something of Rodin but it has never been his detailed biography. My information of Rodin had a superficial character before our visit of his museum. I´ve had the only sure information: that he has belonged to the most important representants of the modern art.

The one thing is the official taste and the other is the personal taste. As soon as some artist found his place in textbooks as well as in the general consciousness of the public, if you have an average education at least, you shouldn´t omit him or her whether you like it or not. The Rembrant van Rijn´s Night Watch has belonged to the treasure of the wideworld art but it doesn´t mean I must admire it myself. So we can see that the question of the taste is a very variable matter.

I could see that Rodin has worked with various colour materials. I think his main topic has been the man. His symbolic way of expession has made use of the female and male human bodies including its parts, for example hands. This has been his central theme as well as the medium by which he has been able to express his internal feelings, impressions, thoughts and his philosophical and religious attitudes. You can see no sculptures of animals in his museum. In fact, you can see only many busts and whole figures including sculptural portraits of more or lesser known personalities.

Just in The Museum of August Rodin at the first time I could see the four original pictures painted by V. van Gogh (two), C. Monet and E. Munch. They were atypical and surprising among all the sculptures. I think they were presented to Rodin by its authors and this way they became his private possessions.

You can find there realisticly elaborated sculptural portraits (H. de Balzac, A. Dumas for item), smaller studies and first of all the sculptures doing Rodin what Rodin has been. The lines of these works are very free, they have a semi-abstract character. They appear to be unmade-up. It is something like as if you find a strange dry branch or a tangled root resembling something or suggesting something. You modify it a bit only ´cause it tells for itself. In a similar way Rodin has worked with stone or other sculptural materials. He has accomplished the complete abstraction in some cases. Just this, as I think, has done its work immortal. He has been a great pioneer in the modern statuary in the same way as P. Cézanne or H. Matisse have been in the modern painting.

When our examination was over and we went out of the Museum again in the court we encircled the castle-museum from the right side. One of often rainy showers was just ceasing when we were encircling the corner of the Museum to the left and literally round the corner we came upon other Rodin´s statue. There has been a park behind the Museum. It is flat with a central sandy path and one side alley shadowed by trees. There´s been an artificial smaller pool in its opposite end. There has been one of the Rodin´s sculptures covered with werdigris in its center.

We encircled all the park and then we went back to the castle of the Museum the alley to the right. In fact the park has been a continuation of the Rodin´s Museum outdoor because his other works have decorated its various parts. They´ve been arranged tenderly, no crowds of them, each of them has had its place. Also there have been several his works installed in big glassy cases near to the Museum. I assume that the reason of this has been in bad durability of materials of which these statues had been created. They´d erode outdoor and they´ve been too big to be reinstalled under the roof of the Museum of which space has been limited. The statues in the glassy cases have looked like animals in a small zoological garden.

And yet one impression from the park. It was at the first time in this park where we could see from the top of the Eiffel´s Tower .

Mé volné dojmy z Paříže

Muzeum Augusta Rodina

Budova muzea je součástí jiných masivních a vysokých domů lemujících obě strany dosti úzké ulice. Měli jsme kliku, protože před vchodem nebyli žádní dlouzí hadi front.
Než jsme mohli přistoupit k pokladně a zakoupit lístky, museli jsme projít kontrolním systémem.

Když naše prohlídka skončila a my zase vyšli na nádvoří před Muzeum, obešli jsme zámek-muzeum zprava. Jedna z častých dešťových přeháněk zrovna ustávala, když jsme obcházeli nároží Muzea vlevo a doslova za rohem jsme narazili na další Rodinovu sochu. Za Muzeem je park. Je rovný s centrální písčitou cestou a jednou postranní cestou stíněnou stromy.

A ještě jeden dojem z toho parku. Bylo to poprvé v tomto parku odkud jsme mohli spatřit vrchol Eiffelovy věže.

The Night Talk in the nursing room.
The English Version

On Two Addicts with Transplanted Hearts

My present job has been the follow-up care of the male patients dependent on drugs, alcohol and gambling. I´ve done this work for more than ten years.
I´ve met very colourful spectrum of patients of various ages, characters and fates but the two of all them have seemed to be the most curious to me. They weren´t at our ward at the same time. The first of the two patients had two stays with us (after a year or two pause) and after his second stay he hasn´t appeared again.
The second man spent three months with us and since that time I have had no information of him.
The first man was younger (about 30 years old) than the second one (more than 35 years old).
The both men has suffered from a fatal inborn heart disease, I think that each of them has had a different kind of it. The only way how to save their lives was to exchange their hearts. The transplantation team (IKEM in Krč, The Thomayer´s Hospital, Prague) found compatible hearts for them and performed perfect operations.

The younger man has abused various drugs and alcohol, the older has abused alcohol only. The younger L.U. has been joyful and he has had no mental troubles or unpleasant feelings. One wouldn´t say that he has become an owner of a new heart. The older P. K. has been very anxious and the new heart in his chest has been getting on his nerves. The two men have taken a lot of special medicines (mainly the heart stimulants and the drugs suppressing the imunity system).

I think they´d already abused alcohol and drugs before then they´ve gotten their new hearts. Their troubles with the heart insufficiency has been removed (of course, relatively to the possibilities of the modern heart surgery) but their dependence on opioids and alcohol has still resisted in their brains. We have had no antibiotics to remove it forever as it has been in the case of various infection diseases. We can´t use the Leksell Gamma Knife to cut it out of their brains radically. At the present time we´ve been able to help the addicts with various psychotherapies and we´ve tried to inspire both their consciousness and unconsciosness with the support of some kinds of the antidepressants. Often we´ve been forced to do it against their will. This has been the worth way. It is the more hopeful if an addict wants himself to get rid of his addiction, if he cooperates. Unfortunately, most of the patients don´t cooperate and then the first step we must do is to seek to convince them patiently that the abstinency is much better than the addiction.
Perhaps the best way would be to transplant new brains to their heads. Why not? An addict´s head and body could rescue a brain of anybody else with no dependence on drugs, alcohol or gambling. Ye, I admit that my proposal is quite hard but take it as the symbolical expression of the fact that the therapy of the addicts hasn´t been too effective.

But why I´m writing about all this isn´t because of the addiction. I´d rather like to depict how I realized the huge advance in the perspectives of the transplantation of the heart as well as many other organs and tissues I´ve had the occasion to experience for the time of my life so far.
I was just on one of my night duty and the patient P.K. (the older of the two men with transplanted hearts) was present at our ward in that time. He visited to me in our nursing room. He wanted to chat with me. I was his favourite nurse and he did it often on my duties. We were talking about all and nothing for a while and suddenly I realized it fully in my mind. I realized the miracle. The great news that there was done the first heart transplantation in the world in Cape Town, South Africa, came to me from the mass media when I was a boy twelve years old. It was on the third December, 1967. One year before the Soviet and comp. (the Warshava Pact) invasion in Czechoslovakia. Two years before then Neil Armstrong did the small step for the man but the big jump for the mankind. The failing heart of the grocer Louis Washkansky (54 years old) was removed from his thorax and substituted for the healthy heart of its involuntary female donor, Denise Darwall. She was crossing a street in Cape Town a day before the first heart transplantation. She didn´t cross the street, her life was ended up by a car. The damage of her brain was irreversible but her heart didn´t cease beating. The first heart exchange in the man was performed by Christian Barnard, the heart surgeon. L. Washkansky lived with the Denise´s heart for 18 days. He couldn´t stand up from his bed, he could lie only with a lot of apparatus which he was attached to but he could live and speak a bit.

Forty five or six years later I´ve already met the addicts with their hearts of other persons in Czech republic. We´ve had our own experts for this job in my country. In that time of the first heart transplantation in Cape Town it was something unthinkable here. Christian Barnard, the famous professor of the heart surgery, died in 2001.
Maybe one day I will meet patients with some artificial hearts or with their own hearts repaired with the help of the stem cells. None of the two new ways can be excluded. Again this has been a nice example of the competition between the technocracy and the biocracy (See more about it in one of my previous contributions).

Ten mladší nadužíval různé drogy a alkohol, starší pouze alkohol.

Nějakou dobu jsme mluvili o všem a o ničem a já si to najednou v duchu plně uvědomil. Rok před sovětskou a spol. (Waršavský pakt) invazí do Československa.

I´ve Been a Lucky Boy

My 57th birthday and the presents I got..
I´d say that the title of this blog is no lie. Yes, I´ve surely been a lucky boy. I´ve experienced so many extraordinary and remarkable things and events in my life so far. I´ll be sixty years old next year already. So far I´ve felt good. No serious diseases. I´ve tried listening to my body.

I´ll be sixty years old next year. I´ve had my own measure to my age. I´ve measured it by an ordinary rule. Imagine yourself that one year of your life is one milimeter. Then ten years of your life correspond to the only one centimeter. I´ve already took almost six centimeters in my life. Now I´ve found myself somewhere between 59-th and 60-th milimeter. You can see your slightness and externality in this visualization, you can perceive it like your life trajectory lost in time and space.
But each of the milimetres on the rule has presented one year of your being. And each of the years has been connected to myriads of your experiences, both the internal and the external ones.
Your internal experience is your private matter. You can share it with others but you needn´t do it and then you can share it with yourself at best.
The external experience is shared with other people together, for example a great worldwide event, but each of the witnesses of the event will be metabolized it into his or her specific internal experience. This way our true experience is the internal one. We differ from each other in the way how we assimilate or absorb the external experience in the internal one.

Really I´ve been lucky because I could try to live in the totalitarian establishment and after the Velvet Revolution I´ve been able to try to live in the democracy of the capitalistic state. I´ve been able to compare the two systems. I´ve been able to observe all the great changes and their influences on myself and my family as well as on the other Czech, Moravian and Silesian people and their lives. It has been an unique occasion to observe something like that. It occurs to me that it has been as if Krakatau (Krakatoa) the volcano exploded (1883) and destroyed all the life on its small island in Indonesia. After the catastrophe, when the volcano stopped in its activity, scientists had the unique possibility to study the ways by which the life gradually occupied the island again.

I was born in the Communistic totality in 1955. Till 1989 I´ve lived in this establishment under the name of Czechoslovak Socialistic Republic together with the Slovaks, our brothers, under one roof. The country was bigger than today and I spent in it 34 years of my life. Since 1989 I´ve already lived in the smaller country under the name of Czech republic for 25 years. Now our brothers, The Slovaks have lived in their own separate country under the name of Slovak republic. Only 9 years separate me from the same number of years I experienced in the CSSR.

My first memory from the source meant above is dedicated to the two important personalities of whose surnames are the same. The name is Václav (Wenceslas in English). Ye, I mean V. Havel and V. Klaus.
Two men with quite different characters. They became visible very soon after the fall of the Communistic regime. When the Communists disappeared V. Havel became the first president of the new age and V. Klaus was appointed the Prime Minister of the Czechoslovak Government.
The two liked each other like the cat with the dog. They held regular meetings in Lány, in the president´s residency near to Prague. On my drawing you can see my imagination of one of their meetings. Mr. V. Klaus just arrived at Lány. The president V. Havel with his wife Olga left the residency and the trio is meeting just in the middle of the path. Unfortunatelly, Ďula, the female dog of the First Lady is faster in this rather embarrassing salutatory ceremony.

Jsem šťastný hoch

Řekl bych, že titul tohoto blogu nelže. Ano, určitě jsem šťasný hoch. Až dosud jsem v životě zažil tolik mimořádných a pozoruhodných věcí. Příští rok mi už bude šedesát. Prozatím se cítím dobře. Žádné vážné choroby. Snažím se naslouchat svému tělu.

A meeting in Lány.

Pan V. Klaus právě dorazil do Lán.

Simple associations over one picture

You´ve already known from the previous contributions of my blog that I´ve drawn a little. You can read there why I´ve done it and how I´ve come to it.
One of my topics in colourful drawings has been named by me "From the Old Greece and Roman Myths and Tales".

To the picture: The Paris judgement. Three Greece goddessses - Pallas Athené, Hera and Afrodité - asked Paris of Troy for his judgemet who of them was the most beautiful. Each of them tried to inspire his meaning to her own benefit and Paris gave the apple of the quarrel to Afrodité, the Goddess of the Love, because she promised Helen, the wife of Menelaus, to him if he found her to be the most beautiful.
This choice of Paris led to the Trojan War. But the Troy was no myth or tale as H.J. Schliemann has showed later. Well, every tale can have a seed of the truth in itself.

The Antics has been full of gods and goddesses and the people of that times have believed in them quite seriously. I´ve assumed that The Greece and Roman polytheism has been the most popular of the polytheistic religions in our civilized world till now. Of course, today there has been nobody to believe in it but its heritage has still been played a very important symbolical role in our culture.

The points of many old Greece and Roman tales and myths have become symbolical ways how to express something in short. Naturally, their full meanings have been clear to the educated people rather than the uneducated ones.

The Latin has belonged to the dead languages today in the same way as Zeus and His comp. have belonged to the dead polytheistic religions. Zeus and His comp. have lost their leading religious position in the natural selective process of other religious alternatives.

The Greek has been the craddle of the democracy too. The Gold Age of Pericles. The boom of the philosophy, i.e. the boom of the free thinking, the boom of the sciences and technologies. The prosperous town states. The boom of the arts and the architecture.

The Romans have adopted the Greece thinking but they have slept on their own laurels. The Roman Empire has fallen and the Greece-Roman polytheism has been changed in the Christianity despite of the fact that the Romans had sacrificed the Jesus Christ, despite the fact that the first quite unarmed Christians were sent by the Romans to the death in the arenas where lions were waing for them. And all this was done to an amusement of the public.
The Mediaval Europe has fallen in the darkness.

But the Europe wasn´t the whole world. The European nations knew almost nothing of the rest of the world. They could know something more of some parts of Asia and Africa but nothing of the rest of the continents. In that time they were unknown to the European nations and their nations didn´t know anything of the Europeans.

The mutual isolations have had one common dinominator: all the nations throughout the world have come to their own religions independently each others. The Europeans have discovered the American Indians with their gods, the Australian aborigins with their supernatural beings etc.,in short, they´ve discovered the rest of the world and its nations. Only the strongest and the biggest of them haven´t lost their religions (for example: The Islam, The Buddhism, The Judaism, The Hindooism etc.). The weaker and the weakest nations have been christianized by the Europeans.

Schliemann.

Zeus a Jeho Spol. ztratili svou vůdčí náboženskou pozici v přirozeném selektivním procesu jiných náboženských alternativ.

Řecko bylo také kolébkou demokracie. Zlatý věk Periklův. Rozkvět filosofie, tj. rozkvět svobodného myšlení, rozkvět vědy a technologie. Prosperující městské státy. Rozkvět umění a architektury.

Středověká Evropa upadla do temnoty.

Jenom nejsilnější a největší z nich neztratily svá náboženství (např. Islám, Buddhismus, Judaismus, Hinduismus etc.). Slabší a nejslabší národy Evropané pokřesťanštili.

My Free Impressions from Paris

The Padlocks Frenzy

In my blog on The Notre Dame I wrote as we crossed a bridge and I took my last picture of the Temple from the opposite bank. Now I want to come back to the bridge again because it wasn´t the bridge you could pass over with any notice.
At the first time we approached to it at a distance only and then I thought to myself that its barrier was somehow strange. It seemed to me as if clusters of golden mistletoe or of goldish straw were stuffed among its rails. The mysterious matter was goldish yellow in colour but in the Sun, from time to time looking through clouds, it was sparkling with all of colourful shades. Besides though I´ve been rather short-sighted I have used no glasses.
This was our first contact with the bridge at a distance. Then we turned back and we headed for The D´Orsay Gallery along Seine the river to the right. In that time also we saw Seine the river at the first time and therefore we took a short walk the embankment.
It has been the first bridge behind The Notre Dame if you´ve encircled its facing from the right side along Seine the river. This way we arrived at it in the second time. Only now I could examine the material among rails of the barrier. As if the barrier was afflicted with a malignous tumor. Some of its parts were swelling out like a bizarre moss or a sea sponge. When you examine the superficial
structure of "the tumor" in detail you can see that it consists of padlocks and padlocks only in various colours. They were locked each other in the topest layer ´cause only the first of the lowest padlocks could be locked and attached to rails of the barrier. Together they have formed a very compact rugged mass. I wouldn´t want to fall on it with my head, it would be almost surely my death. The surface of this spontaneous artifact is very solid and with a plenty of sharp edges projecting  at various angles.

This padlock frenzy has begun in innocent way. Please, let me to speculate about it a little. He and she came to the bridge. They married just before a while. He took a padlock with a key from a pocket of his wedding dress and he hooked it to one of rails of the barrier. Then he locked the padlock with the key. He stepped to his new wife with the key in his hand and they kissed each other. They stepped to the barrier of the bridge and he threw the key into Seine. This way they sealed their marriage in a symbolic way. After this rite nothing hasn´t been able to separate them. Or has it there been anything like that? We´ve known very well the marriage in a church: "What the God has bonded, the man has never untied". And the results? Whether a marriage has been in church or in a guildhall people have divorced anyway.

One padlock in the barrier of the bridge (of which name I don´t know) should mean one marriage. I´d like to know if all the couples have still been together. If yes, then this rite of the constant faithfulness has confirmed the great power of superstitiousness in the Postmodern times.

The first couple has found its followers and imitators. This has been why the bridge has appeared to be afflicted a strange metallic tumor today.

When I took last picture of The Notre Dame Temple from the opposite cobblied bank close to the river suddenly a wedding couple was appearing there. The groom was in his black dress and there was a bridal bunch of flowers in his hands and the bridal wore a white robe with no white veil shrouding her face. A photographer was together with them. He was taking pictures of them with the Notre Dame on the background at a distance behind them. Was the wedding couple going to undertake the rite on the bridge too? Who knows. Maybe they´d realized it sooner than I could see them poseing for the photographer.

A time later in Prague again just I was listening to the radio and they were telling about the bridge in Paris in it. I learnt that the Padlocks Frenzy on the bridge has irritated most of all not the native Parish citizens but an American woman. She has loved Paris very much and she has already lived for several years there. Now she´s addressed to the Parish official places with the goal to prohibit the rite. She has claimed that the bridge has been the Parish historical monument and that the rite of the constant faithfulness has been destroying it.
Will the American woman living in Paris be successful in her campaign?

Dohromady vytvářejí velmi hutnou a hrbolatou masu.

Prosím, dovolte mi, abych si o tom trochu zaspekuloval.
On a ona přišli na most. Zrovna před chvilkou se vzali. On vytáhl z kapsy svatebního oděvu visací zámek s klíčkem a zámek zahákl k jedné ze šprušlí zábradlí. Pak zámek klíčkem uzamkl. S klíčkem v ruce přistoupil ke své nové manželce a navzájem se políbili. Potom přešli k zábradlí mostu a on klíček vhodil do Seiny. A výsledky?

První pár našel své následovníky a napodobovatele.

My Free Impressions from Paris

How I didn´t see Mona Lisa in original

Yes, one of the most famous pictures painted by Leonardo da Vinci, the Italian Renaissance painter, scientist and inventor. So many times I´ve already seen its reproductions in books, movies, on posters, in newspapers. So many times I´ve heard about it. But I´ve never seen its original in the place where it has been displayed. As it has been known notoriously the place has been The Parish Louvre.
And so one of our first ways led to this Gallery.

We went to there by the Parish metro and the way took a while only. If I remember it well the exit from the metro stop has been connected with a spaceous passage continuously. The passage has been roofed and has led directly to The Louvre. Almost you´d say that you´re still in the metro.

As we´re passing through the huge passage with a high ceiling soon we´re walking along one or two very long fronts full of visitors of various sorts. The Japanese tourists were seen in them very often, indeed as it was in other fronts too we met during our stay in Paris. I think that the Japanese tourists armed with the colourful high tech productions (mobiles, tablets, Ipods etc.) have belonged to the most patient components in these long snakes creeping like snails to their wishful goals.

It wasn´t the right couple of our tea. We had no time to stand out some of the terrible fronts. For the last time I looked around the huge hall. I recall the upside-down pyramid. It has installed in the centre of the hall near to the Gallery of Louvre and again I´ve evoked to myself the adjoining luxurious shops with luxurious goods, their huge entrances and show windows, nothing for the people with a wind in their pockets........and a lot of people freely walking around.

My son thought out another alternative and me and Vendy promptly agreed with it. We headed for the Museum of August Rodin not so far from the Louvre by walk. So far this has been my greatest chance to see the Leonardo´s Mona Lisa in original in my own eyes. Never mind, maybe, one day I´ll try it again. The hope has been dying for the last time.

Nebyl to náš šálek čaje.

Syn vymyslel druhou alternativu a já s Vendym jsme s ní ihned souhlasili. Nevadí, možná to jednou zkusím znovu. Naděje umírá naposledy.

My Free Impressions from Paris

The Eiffel´s Tower and Its Daughter

This is something like a comparing study. Of course, if you´re in Paris you want to see The Eiffel´s Tower. I was no exception.
There has been a similar tower here in Prague, but it has been only sixty metres tall. The Eiffel´s Tower has been three hundreds metres tall. It has stood on the flatland near to Seine the river whereas The Prague Lookout has stood on Petřín The Hill high above Vltava the river.

As we´re nearing to The Eiffel´s Tower from the stop of the Parish metro we´re passing by the street sellers of its models of various sizes and sorts as well as by shops full of souveniers connected with this attraction.
The Fig.2: The Prague Lookout on Petřín the hill to the left on this picture.

This Eiffel´s project wasn´t accepted well from the very beginning. It had many opponents. They claimed that to build up such the monstrum in the centre of Paris was unthinkable. Today the idea of Paris with no The Eiffel´s Tower has been unthinkable.

In the recent time we´ve experienced something like that here in Prague but unlike the Eiffel´s Tower the proposal of the new modern town library in our capital quite failed.
J. Kaplicky, the Czech architect, more famous abroad than here, proposed his project of the large town library. His realized buildings abroad have been built up in an untraditional highly modern style. His project went through a regular competition and it won it. But the modern style of the building and the place where it could stand were thorns in eyes of many opponents. And one of the greatest opponents of the Kaplicky´s project was Mr. V. Klaus, the previous president of Czech republic. The opponents gave to the project various bad nicknames of which "the Spittle" and "the Octopus" have become the most known. The president´s negative influence on the realization of the project was so strong that it was rejected depite of the fact of its win in the official competition.
The Fig.3: The Prague Lookout on Petřín the hill.
J. Kaplicky, well known by his modern buildings in the world, could incorporate his specific element in the Prague composition too. He was at the peak of his creative powers (born in 1935). He had a much more younger and pregnant wife. He didn´t give his project up, no doubt he had to be very much disgusted and stressed by the changing attitudes of the Prague Lord Mayor and the other town clerks to the realization of his proposal. It is paradoxical that he was afflicted by a massive heart attack in a street  just in that day when his wife was giving their daughter in a maternity hospital. He was dead (2009) sooner before the emergency ambulace arrived at the place.

The more untradicional building the lesser chance it will pass through the institutionalized taste. Fortunately, the institucionalized taste has had its holes too. The ways from a proposal to its realization have often been very inconsistent.

We didn´t climb up to the top of The Eiffel´s Tower, we didn´t see Paris from its top. Again the long fronts before its several enters discouraged us. And also it was our limited time ´cause we visited to Paris for not complete three days only. I could examine it and to take its pictures from the ground. I could observe a lot of tourists swarming among its four straddled metallic feet. I coud see its lifts in its hollow feet and the tall neck transporting the tourists up and down through them. I could walk just under its belly or to go further to the Mart´s field and to observe it from various distances. The Mart´s field has been a large park in the flatland arranged in the typical French garden style. The Eiffel´s Tower can be thought to be something like a free gate to the park. Even to tree crowns has been submitted to the strict geometry in the park.
The Fig.4: The base of the Prague Lookout.

The Prague lookout on the top of Petřín the hill has been reachable by walk or by the funicular railway. Though the daughter in Prague has been by 240 metres lower than its mother in Paris it has compensated this lack by its standing on the high hill.

We had two attempts to clime up to the top of the Eiffel´s Tower but the second one was unsuccessful too for the same reason as the first one. After the first failed attempt we visited to Versailles and then we went to the Eiffel´s Tower again but with no perspective of a prompt clime to its top. We took a taxi cab and its driver, a woman of an oriental race, transported us through the Champ´s Elysses with their Victory Arch to the highest building in Paris.

Mé volné dojmy z Paříže

Eiffelova věž a její dcera

The Fig.6: The passable base of The Eiffel´s Tower.
Jan Kaplický, český architekt, známější v zahraničí než tady, navrhl svůj projekt velké městské knihovny. Jeho realizované stavby v zahraničí byly postaveny v netradičním vysoce moderním stylu. Jeho projekt prošel regulérní soutěží a vyhrál ji. Avšak moderní sloh té stavby a místo kde měla stát byly trny v očích četných oponentů.
Měl mnohem mladší a těhotnou ženu.
The Fig.7: The geometricly trimmed tree crowns in The Mart´s Field.

The Fig.8: The belly of the Parish Giraffe.
