The Proukl´s Kočkens

Mr. Proukl is a hero of one of the stories written by Ludvík Souček, the late Czech writer of the sci-fy and speculative literature. He belonged to my favourite authors in my school years. I used to call him the Czech E. von Däniken.
The story named The Proukl´s Kočkeni is one of many others published in one book under the name "The Interest of The Galaxy".
Each of the stories is a kind of a model situation suggesting ways by which the mankind has been able to meet any extraterrestrial beings in its history without it has noticed them.

A Prague university professor, an international expert in the intelligent life in the Universe, is invited to shoot a stag in forests near to a small settlement. As a scientist he strictly refuses any contacts of our world with other worlds.
With a help of a local hunter he shoots some animal from his blind. It is no stag but some strange unknown creature. The hunter knows it saying the professor that it is a "kočken". The professor understands nothing and wants to know more. The hunter tells him they must visit to the old Proukl living in his small house in the end of the settlement. Just the old Proukl will know more. Mr. Proukl isn´t old only but also he´s simple-minded.
Mr. Proukl isn´t surprised by the strange creature, he identifies it as the "kočken" immediately and leads his visitors to his shed to show them something what is an ordinary matter to him. He has two goats in the woody shed but they aren´t there. The professor and his assistant look at something fantastic. The old Proukl is pointing to the opposite wall from the enter. "They´re pasturing just now", Proukl says his visitors proudly. In fact the opposite wall of the woody shed is an enter into a quite different world with blue grass and living strange creatures including "kočkens". There are the Proukl´s goats tied to a pile in the bizzare country. They are pasturing and they´re calm absolutely.
The professor understands that his scientific credit is very threatened. He stands before the interface of the two different worlds. Unlike his scientific rivals he was wrong in his mathematical calculations. But this is the only proof........if he tries to destroy it..........
He acts quickly. He intimidates Proukl that he should publish the extra grounds in his shed to the officialdom. The naive Proukl is getting nervous, he´s affraid of the lost of his goats and decides to destroy his shed himself. Taking the goats out of the shed he burns it to the ash. The shooted kočken is thrown in the fire too. The unique proof of the contacts of the different worlds is destroyed and the professor can keep enjoying his scientific credit.
How the mankind can be dumped a fascinating possibility by a simple human vanity.
I´ve always liked the Souček´s idea of an ordinary woody shed with an enter into a quite different world. And so I drew it. Please, share it with me.

Prouklovi kočkeni

Pan Proukl je hrdinou jedné z povídek od Ludvíka Součka, zesnulého českého spisovatele sci-fy a spekulativní literatury.Ve školních letech patřil k mým oblíbeným autorům. Říkával jsem mu český Erich von Däniken.
Povídka nazvaná Prouklovi kočkeni je jednou z mnoha dalších vydaných pod názvem Zájem galaxie.
Každá z těchto povídek je jakousi modelovou situací naznačující způsoby, jimiž se lidstvo může potkávat s jakýmikoliv mimozemskými bytostmi, aniž by si jich povšimlo.

Pražský univerzitní profesor, mezinárodní odborník na inteligentní život ve vesmíru, je pozván střelit si jelena v lesích nedaleko malé osady. Jako vědec striktně odmítá jakékoliv kontakty našeho světa s jinými.
S pomocí místního myslivce z posedu nějaké zvíře zastřelí. Není to jelen, ale jakýsi podivný neznámý tvor. Myslivec ho zná, protože profesorovi ho označí jako "kočkena". Profesor nic nechápe a chce se dozvědět víc. Myslivec mu říká, že musejí navštívit starého Proukla, který bydlí v malém domku na konci vesnice. Právě starý Proukl bude vědět víc. Pan Proukl není jen starý, ale taky prostoduchý. Podivný tvor pana Proukla nepřekvapuje, okamžitě ho identifikuje jako "kočkena" a vede své návštěvníky do chléva, aby jim ukázal něco, co je pro něj běžná věc. Má v dřevěném chlévu dvě kozy, ale ty tam nejsou. Profesor se svým asistentem zírají na cosi fantastického. Starý Proukl ukazuje od vstupu na protější stěnu: "Teď se zrovna pasou" říká Proukl návštěvníkům pyšně. Protější stěna dřevěného chléva je vlastně vstup do úplně jiného světa s modrou trávou a s živými zvláštními tvory včetně "kočkenů". V té bizarní krajině jsou ke kůlu uvázané Prouklovy kozy. Popásají se a jsou naprosto klidné.
Profesor chápe, že jeho vědecká pověst je velmi ohrožena. Stojí před rozhraním dvou odlišných světů. Narozdíl od svých vědeckých soků se ve svých matematických výpočtech mýlil.
Ale tohle je jediný důkaz......Kdyby se ho pokusil zničit......
Jedná rychle. Zastrašuje Proukla, že by měl své pozemky navíc nahlásit úřadům.  Naivní Proukl znervózní, bojí se, že o své kozy přijde a rozhodne se, že chlév sám zničí. Vyvede kozy z chlívku a spálí ho na popel. Také zastřelený kočken je vhozen do ohně. Jedinečný důkaz o kontaktech odlišných světů je zničen a profesor se může nadále těšit ze své vědecké pověsti.
Jak může obyčejná lidská ješitnost připravit lidstvo o fascinující možnost.
Součkova představa obyčejného dřevěného chléva se vstupem do zcela jiného světa se mi vždycky líbila. A tak jsem ji nakreslil. Prosím, sdílejte ji se mnou.
