Lovoš the Hill (III)

A Changing Terrain and
Our First Views of the Surrounding Landscape
as well as one or two more plants 

Me and my friend Vendy underwent a trip to the region of České Středohoří to explore one of their many hills and mountains. The name of our target was Lovoš, the hill towering about 700 m above the sea level.
In my previous part I depicted our climb up to the height about 500 m above the sea level. I could take my first shots of surrounding landscape there ´cause the sylvan growth started disappearing due to stony runs as well as to much steeper terrain (the fig.1). The leafy forest was changed into a xerophyte like vegetation with various bushes and plants.

I took the first shots of the surrounding landscape through rifts among branches of last trees. The first shot taken in this way can be seen on the fig.2.

But at this height our attention wasn´t attracted only to the first views of the landscape. We could notice new interesting plants under our feet. If we took our way to Lovoš to find the orchid species of Cephalanthera rubra L. there, at this height where the forest retreated, where the terrain was stony and steeper, where tree crowns changed into the open sky above our heads and where unlike the lower levels I started observe a different floristic compound, at this height I ceased to hope to find the orchid. The local compound of plants resembled to me more and more the prairie vegetation covering cliffs forming the Vltava Valley not too far from the place where I lived. As if I met familiar faces. They said to me: "This place wasn´t suitable to the beauty you´re searching for, you couldn´t find it here."

I noticed one plant of which flowers were flowered away.  A while before I browsed a botanic book and compared the plant on the picture to various plant portraits in it and my verdict was Primula veris L. (Primulaceae Vent.), you can see it on the fig.3.
A while later we saw a marked plant in flower. No doubt it was of the genus Iris L. but I couldn´t identify it exactly in the place. Only at home and by studying botanical literature I came to a conclusion that it was I. aphylla L. (the family Iridaceae Juss.). But the matter is more complicated by the fact that this species is divided into two subspecies. Despite this I assume that the plants from Lovoš can be attributed to I. aphylla subsp. aphylla.

The first specimen of this rare species in Czech republic I captured in Lovoš was showed on the fig.4. The yellow flowering plant to the right on the same photo is Verbascum lychnitis L. (Scrophulariaceae Juss.), a common plant of similar habitats.

I finish this post with one of our first views of the surrounding landscape showed on the fig.5. The yellow fields are cultivated plants of Brassica napus subsp. napus in flower (Brassicaceae Burnett). Today this plant has very often been cultivated in my country.

Měnící se terén a naše první výhledy do okolní krajiny
a taky pár dalších rostlin

Já a přítel Venda jsme podnikli výlet do oblasti Českého středohoří, abychom prozkoumali jeden z jeho mnoha kopců a hor. Náš cíl se jmenoval Lovoš, kopec tyčící se asi 700 m nad mořem.

V předešlé části jsem vylíčil náš výstup až do výšky cca 500 m nad mořem.
Mohl jsem udělat první záběry okolní krajiny, protože lesní porost začal mizet díky kamenitým sutím a také mnohem strmějšímu terénu. Listnatý les přecházel v suchomilnou vegetaci s různými keři a rostlinami.

První záběry okolní krajiny jsem udělal skrze průhledy mezi větvovím posledních stromů. První záběr pořízený tímto způsobem lze vidět na obr.2.

Naši pozornost však v téhle výšce nepřitahovaly jen první výhledy do krajiny. Mohli jsme si všímat nových zajímavých rostlin pod nohama. Jestliže jsme zajeli na Lovoš, abychom tam našli orchideu okrotici červenou (Cephalanthera rubra L.), v této výšce, kde les ustupoval, kde byl terén kamenitý a strmější, kde koruny stromů přecházely v otevřenou oblohu nad našimi hlavami a kde na rozdíl od nižších úrovní jsem mohl pozorovat odlišné složení flory, v této výšce jsem v nález orchideje doufat přestával.
Místní skladba rostlin mi stále víc připomínala stepní vegetaci srázů tvořících vltavské údolí nepříliš daleko od místa kde bydlím. Jako bych potkával důvěrně známé tváře. Říkaly mi: "Tohle není vhodné místo pro krásku, kterou hledáš, tady ji najít nemůžeš".

Povšiml jsem si jedné rostliny, jejíž květy byly zvadlé. Prolistoval jsem jednu botaniku a srovnával rostlinu na obrázku s portréty rostlin v ní a můj verdikt je prvosenka jarní (Primula veris L.) z prvosenkovitých (Primulaceae L.), můžete ji vidět na obr.3.
O chvíli později jsem uviděl nápadnou rostlinu v květu. Nepochybně šlo o rod kosatec (Iris L.), ale na místě jsem ho nedokázal určit přesně. Teprve doma a studiem botanické literatury jsem dospěl k závěru, že se jedná o kosatec bezlistý (I. aphylla L.) z kosatcovitých (Iridaceae Juss.). Věc je ale složitější faktem, že se tento druh dělí na dva poddruhy. Vzdor tomu mám za to, že rostliny z Lovoše mohou být přisouzeny poddruhu kosatec bezlistý pravý (I. aphylla subsp. aphylla).
První exemplář tohoto v České republice vzácného druhu, který jsem vyfotil na Lovoši, ukazuje obr.4. Na stejném obrázku žlutě kvetoucí rostlina vpravo je divizna knotovkovitá (Verbascum lychnitis L.) z čeledi krtičníkovitých (Scrophulariaceae Juss.), běžná rostlina podobných lokalit.

Tento příspěvek končím jedním z našich prvních výhledů do okolní krajiny předvedené na obr.5. Žlutá pole jsou pěstované rostliny brukve řepky olejky (Brassica napus subsp. napus) v květu z čeledi brukvovitých (Brassicaceae Burnett). V mé vlasti se tato rostlina dneska pěstuje velmi často.
