He told me about his stay in Pakistan

Hence the flag of this exotic country on my picture. When I finished drawing his portray I thought what a kind of background I could draw behind him. First I hesitated. I could not decide what to do with the empty room behind his portray. Whether I could draw something behind him or not.
First it occurred a window to me or I could fill the empty room with some furniture. But something said no, no to me. Then I got an idea. I could draw the Pakistan flag behind him. It would be a symbol of his narration.

He´s telling me about Pakistan. 

He was an engineer afflicted with the dependency on alcohol. He visited to Pakistan in his better years. I think he was twice there. First it was a working stay to him, the second visit of Pakistan was his private journey. But I can be mistaken about it and both the stays were working.

Pakistan has been no frequent item in our mass media. One has been getting some information of this country from time to time only and if it has happened then mostly the novelties of it have brought nothing good: the increasing or decreasing tensions between it and India, its increasing nuclear potential......and just when this man spent his time at our ward....two Czech girls were kidnapped in Pakistan. They wanted to travel this country with their bags on their shoulders but as soon as they were there they disappeared with no trait.

Well, no wonder then that when I learnt he was in this inconsistent country I asked him for his personal experience. He told me about peaceful people, about mountainous landscapes with deep valleys, about poor water sources and inventive solutions of this big problem as well as about women who had to be watched if you did not want to lost them. Namely, the Pakistan men have stolen their women each other. Therefore he thought both the lost Czech girls to be very naive. He claimed that two alone young women from abroad in this country is a very dangerous matter.
By the way to get the two girls from Pakistan back to Czech republic took about two years.

Vyprávěl mi o svém pobytu v Pakistánu

Odtud vlajka této exotické země na mém obrázku. Když jsem jeho portrét dokreslil, přemýšlel jsem, jaký typ pozadí bych mohl nakreslit za něj. Nejdřív jsem váhal. Nemohl jsem se rozhodnout, co dělat s tím prázdným prostorem za jeho portrétem. Zdali bych za něj měl či neměl něco nakreslit. Nejprve mě napadlo okno, nebo bych mohl ten prázný prostor vyplnit nábytkem. Ale něco mi říkalo ne, ne. Pak jsem dostal nápad. Mohl bych za něj nakreslit pakistánskou vlajku. Bude symbolem jeho vyprávění.

Byl inženýr postižený závislostí na alkoholu. Ve svých lepších letech navštívil Pakistán. Myslím, že tam byl dvakrát. Poprvé to pro něj byl pracovní pobyt, druhá návštěva Pakistánu byla jeho soukromou cestou. Ale mohu se mýlit a oba ty pobyty byly pracovní.

Pakistán není častou položkou v našich masmédiích. Člověk dostává informace o této zemi jen tu a tam, a když se to stane, pak novinky o ní nepřinášejí nic dobrého: rostoucí nebo klesající napětí mezi ní a Indií, její narůstající jaderný potenciál a......zrovna když tento muž trávil čas na našem oddělení.....byly v Pakistánu uneseny dvě české dívky. Chtěly cestovat zemí s batohy na ramenou, ale jakmile tam byly, zmizely beze stopy.

Není tedy divu, že, když jsem zjistil, že v téhle rozporuplné zemi byl, zeptal jsem se ho na jeho osobní zážitky. Vyprávěl mi o mírumilovných lidech, o hornatých krajinách s hlubokými údolími, o chabých vodních zdrojích a vynalézavých řešeních tohoto problému a rovněž o ženách, které se musí střežit, nechcete-li o ně přijít. Pakistánci si totiž navzájem kradou ženy. Proto ty ztracené češky pokládal za velmi naivní. Tvrdil, že dvě samotné cizinky v této zemi je záležitost velice nebezpečná.
Mimochodem, dostat ty dvě dívky z Pakistánu do České republiky trvalo asi dva roky.
