A Life Between Driving A Car and Drinking Alcohol

Mr. V.H. has already been hospitalized at the ward of the follow-up care for the men dependent on alcohol, drugs and gambling several times. His problem has been alcohol. It has already been an experienced older man. He has always respected a regime like character of the treatment at our ward. His last stay with us has been three or four months old.
Originally he worked as a driver of various vehicles. A bus was one of them. Now his age has been exceeding six decades. I think he has had more employments in his life than the job of a driver only. But the cars of all kinds has still belonged to his most favorite topics as well as hobbies. He has always accented the fact that he never drunken alcohol before a car driving. He traveled by a car or by a bus many European countries. He transported tourists to foreign destinations, mostly to the region of the former Yugoslavia. But also I know that he worked as a barman in a pub for a time. As long as I have known now he has been employed in a plant or a private firm but I have had no idea of what his function has been in it. Maybe it has been a working profession.
During his stays at our ward he has had no body problems. The main reason of his stays with us has always been to stop drinking enormous amounts of alcohol. He has had his risky periods. He has been able to drink no alcohol for many months but then suddenly a crises has come and he has been lost.
Often I used to see him in a role of a leader of the community. The community includes all our patients. It comes together with the nursing team in a large room every morning. On this occasion it has been read a daily program, various demands and complains of patients have been taken, it has been a mutual exchange of information between us and the patients. Simply, various operation matters have been solved. A main doctor is a leader of our team and the community has its own elected leader. He has been proposed by the patients and agreed by our team.
Now I am adding a portrait of Mr. V.H. to my free gallery of the addicts who I have met in the course of my work  This collection has been developing by accident, maybe as a consequence of my professional deformation. The process has had no certain goal. Simply I wanted to draw him and I did it. I caught the man as he is sitting behind his table in the middle of the large room as the leader of the community.

Život mezi řízením auta a pitím alkoholu

Pan V.H. byl na našem oddělení následné péče pro muže závislé na alkoholu, drogách a hraní hospitalizován několikrát. Jeho problém je alkohol. Je to už zkušený starší člověk. Režimový charakter léčby na našem oddělení vždy respektoval. Jeho poslední pobyt u nás je tři nebo čtyři měsíce starý. Původně pracoval jako řidič různých vozidel. Jedním z nich byl autobus. Teď už jeho věk přesahuje šest desetiletí. Myslím, že měl v životě více zaměstnání než jen práci řidiče. Ale auta všeho druhu pořád patří k jeho nejoblíbenějším tématům i koníčkům. Vždycky zdůrazňoval fakt, že před řízením auta nikdy alkohol nepil. Autem či busem procestoval mnoho evropských zemí. Přepravoval turisty do různých zahraničních destinací, většinou do oblasti bývalé Jugoslávie. Avšak vím také, že nějaký čas pracoval jako výčepní v jednom hostinci. Pokud vím, teď je zaměstnán v nějaké továrně či soukromé firmě, ale nemám představu o tom, jaká je v ní jeho funkce. Snad nějaká dělnická profese.
Během pobytů na našem oddělení tělesné problémy nemá. Hlavní důvod pobytů u nás vždy je zarazit pití enormního množství alkoholu. Má svá riziková období. Dokáže po mnoho měsíců žádný alkohol nepít, ale pak náhle přichází krize a je ztracený.
Často jsem ho vídával v roli předsedy komunity. Komunita zahrnuje všechny naše pacienty. Každé ráno se spolu s ošetřovatelským týmem schází ve velké místnosti. Při této příležitosti se čte denní program, řeší se různé požadavky a stížnosti pacientů, je to vzájemná výměna informací mezi námi a pacienty. Vedoucí lékař je vedoucím našeho týmu a komunita má vlastního voleného předsedu. Je navrhován pacienty a schvalován týmem.
Teď do volné Galerie závislých, s nimiž se potkávám v průběhu své práce, přidávám portrét pana V.H.. Tahle kolekce se rozvíjí nahodile, snad jako následek mé profesionální deformace. Ten proces nemá žádný určitý cíl. Prostě jsem si ho chtěl nakreslit a udělal jsem to. Zachytil jsem ho, jak sedí za svým stolem ve středu velké místnosti jako předseda komunity.
