On A Next Frequent Czech Proverb
This is a next frequent proverb used in my country (Czech republic). Its meaning can be better understood if I present more examples to you:
He theft for so a long time till he was arrested.
He went with a pot for beer for so a long time till he became to be dependent on alcohol.
In generally, a long termed risky doing can lead to problems.
But my picture is not a simple copy of the proverb only. I put next two superstitious elements into it. The man is standing on a cover of a canal meaning a bad luck and the black cat running over the street is thought here to be a bad luck, too. So that the unhappy man on my picture is finding himself in a threefold enchanted field.

The Czech Proverbs in My Illustrations
I like proverbs. They are wise, smart and clever. Each nation has its proverbs. They can be fit for some life situations. I am going to concentrate on the Czech ones. No doubts that The Czech proverbs may resemble the foreign ones, they tell the same wisdom but they do it by other words only. To my opinion the same proverbs though said by different words have showed that all the nations of the Earth have had much in common.
The proverbs can describe some situations aptly by a shortcut. Many of them do not miss the sense of humor, they are very amusing to me. Hence my idea to try transforming some of them into drawings, to play a bit with their thoughts or with their common truths.
There is yet one thing in common to them. We do not know their authors. Somehow they have been appearing from the folk´s wisdom spontaneously.

From My Memories of Madeira
This was one of our first longer drives by the rented car driven by Vendy during our stay at Madeira. When the sea of the north side was at our sight already Vendy stopped the car at a resting place next to the road. The resting place was nearby under a village with amazing views of a surrounding mountainous landscape.
A while before our stop at the resting place we drove through the village nearby above the parking lot. As we were passing through the village we could see a house and its garden decorated with garlands of color papers hanging on thin ropes. More cars were parking alongside the house. Maybe a celebration or a wedding we thought to ourselves. But the picture stayed behind us within a while in the going car. We forgot the scene for a while.
A while later our attention was attracted with a shoot or something like that. The sound came from the village. At the same time we could see a small cloud slowly diffusing in the air over the left side of the valley (at the direction of our way to the sea). I could catch the small cloud up with my smart phone. You can examine it in my picture (the fig.4). There was yet one shoot after the first one and the valley fell in its usual awesome silence again. We connected the shoots with the celebration in the village. Next shooting did not happen and we kept to enjoy the beauty of the place.
A time flowed away when suddenly we could observe a colony of cars passing fast by us and continuing on their way down to the sea. According to one of the cars going in the center we understand what was going on in the village. The car in the middle of the going colony was the burial car transporting inside a coffin with a dead man. I hardly made to take one or two photos of the colony or rather of backs of last cars. Obviously, this was last faraway with a dead.
Since that time wherever we encountered on the color paper pieces hanging on thin ropes and decorating a house or a garden in Madeira (one next case only I think) we deciphered it like a symbol of last things of the man.

Po prvním následoval ještě jeden výstřel a údolí opět upadlo do svého obvyklého hluboce uctivého ticha. Výstřely jsme si spojovali s oslavou ve vesnici. Další střílení se nekonalo a my si dál užívali krásy místa.
Uplynul nějaký čas, když v tom jsme mohli pozorovat kolonu aut, která kol nás rychle projížděla a pokračovala dál svou cestou dolů k moři.

The World Chess in The End of Last Year
When I was younger the chess belonged to one of my most favorite table games. I liked playing the game. First I begun to notice its existence when the World Chess Championship was held between two excellent chess players: Boris Spaskij (USSR) vers. Robert Fisher (USA) in Reykyavik, Iceland. Then I started playing it and the start was very naive. Gradually I was getting more experiences and I was learning to combine by heart. I never was a member of a chess club. I always remained to be an only amateur.
I studied the chess literature with all the famous games, with all the theoretical foundations of the chess game in its opening, in its medium game and in its finishing phase.
Now, from time to time I have played a game or two with my son, the times of my frequent playing the chess have been over. My interest in the chess game was increased in the end of last year. Then me and my son watched the live broadcast of the Chess World Championship between Magnus Carlson (Norway) and Sergej Karyakin (Russia) held in New York through the Internet. Again I could see that the famous saying - you can´t step twice in the one and the same river - declared by the Greece philosopher Herakleitos has still held good. Since the times of Boris Spaskij and Robert Fisher the things have changed very deeply. Today, in fact the real winner, the world chess master, has been no man but the artificial intelligence (AI). Now we have had two new categories. The AI have already been able to win the best chess players of the world. M. Carlson and S. Karyakin have already been students of the chess programs rather than students of their successful and excellent past and present human colleagues. This was unthinkable in the times of R. Fisher and B. Spaskij.
Well, as we have overcome our own senses for example by microscopes and by telescopes in the case of our eyes for many times as we have been able to overcome the abilities of our brain in a similar way.
Magnus Carlson has won the title of the chess king. But in fact the absolute title should belong to the AI.

M. Carlson a S. Karijakin jsou už spíše stutenti šachových programů než studenti svých úspěšných a vynikajících minulých a současných lidských kolegů.

My Memories of Tenerife
At the present times my stay at work has been prevailing (a sad message to me). I have been at work more than at home. No wonder then that the time for my posts have been shorter than it might be and this has been why my latest post has been no long story.
This memory corresponds with our visit of one of the black beaches. While Robert (my son) was sitting under an outdoor roofed garden of a restaurant I was searching in our immediate surroundings with my smart phone ready to photograph.
Suddenly I noticed a bizarre looking tree of which shots are accompanying this text. It grew together with other trees and plants in a park nearby the beach. I did not know its name but a time later I learnt its name and more about it at my home background with a solid botanic literature. The Englishmen call it the Octopus Tree or the Umbrella Tree. And as I am looking at my photos I can confirm the aptness of these names.
As my photos recorded the Octopus tree was flowering at the time of our first encounter. You can find more botanic information of it under the photos.

Angličané mu říkají The Octopus Tree (odtud mé "chobotničník") nebo The Umbrella Tree (něco jako "deštníkovec").

Madeira in My Memories
To your imagine: Funchal, the city of Madeira, stretches out on vast slopes of high mountains falling down to the Atlantic ocean. You can see it well on my pictures in some previous posts devoted to my memories of this beautiful mountainous island.
In fact, there were three areas devoted to botany in Funchal. Coincidentally, they all sat higher in a slope above our apartment. The Botany park (I have already written about it) has taken the highest position. The second large stair under the previous has been occupied by the classic Botanical Garden and the third stair lower has been something like an Eden of the tropical tree ferns to me. Gradually we visited to all the three places covered with the tropical and subtropical flora due to the intellectual spirit of the Madeira ´s islanders.
Well, this time let´s stop at a small house standing in the classic Botanic Garden (the second stair from up to down in my description) not too far behind its main entrance. Now you have an unique chance to step into its inner rooms together with me because I am going to be your mediator.
The small house turned to be a small museum of the natural sciences. Its two or three rooms have covered a lot of natural specimens displayed in glassy cases. The collections have showed both the zoological and the botanic items. Also I noticed some fossilized items there. As soon as I found myself inside it was clear to me that I might do some photo-documentation of this highly interesting mausoleum where manifold samples of animals and plants of Madeira the island have been concentrated in mummified forms.
No wonder that the zoological items of the sea have occupied the biggest part. First I started photographing both the open and the closed glassy cases with various natural things without I would have guessed that I would have done something prohibited in the room to the right side from the entrance of the mausoleum. I did not omit to take some shots of a closed case with samples of dried plants. Mainly this room was devoted to the marine invertebrates. Also I recorded several posters depicting various ecological activities of local experts as well as amateur lovers of the Nature. I noticed various specimens of the fish in this room. Now I am not sure if I saw any beetles, butterflies and other species of the insects there. Mostly I concentrated on my photographing the displayed specimens. I had no time to examine separate specimens for a longer time. Well, if the specimens were in the memory of my smart phone then there would be a lot of time to study them in more detailed ways later in my home background. This has always been my strategy in the time limited situations.
When I was satisfied with my photo-hunts in the first room I turned myself to visit to the second room. Just I was going to step over to it but first I stopped to take a whole shot of the second room through its open enter. I could see that there were the biggest exhibits of manifold vertebrates including some cetaceans in the second room. I took one or two shots when suddenly I felt a light touch on my left side. I turned my head to a cause of the touch and I saw a small older woman standing by my left side. With no word she was pointing to the panel on my right side: TO PHOTOGRAPH IS PROHIBITED heralded the panel. "Sorry, I did not notice it", I replied with no her response because she was showing her back to me already and she was looking for other sinners disturbing their rules. Fortunately, all my photos taken before her warning remained hidden in my smart phone´s memory. Unfortunately, due to her resolute instruction I could not continue on in my original photographing as intensive as I could do it in the first room. This is why the two shots of the second room were last ones I could take in this remarkable small mausoleum of the natural sciences.
Dear madam, I am very sorry. You watched the rooms of the small museum of the natural sciences in a very attentive way. As soon as you warned me I stopped photographing. Nevertheless, I could take some photos of the inner rooms before than you noticed my bad behavior. My only goal why I publish the several photos taken in your remarkable mausoleum of the natural sciences has been to appreciate its qualities as well as the efforts of your naturalists. I have been an amateur biologist and when I saw all the beauty of the displayed exhibits simply I could not help myself. I apologize you once again. You have done your job very well.

Sbírky předváděly zoologické i botanické položky.
Madeira in My Memories
To Photograph is Prohibited!
In A Mausoleum of The Natural Sciences

We took this strange looking fish in one of many restaurants in the harbor of Funchal the city. It was after my second sea trip connected with a chance to observe some cetaceans. But now I am not going to depict this great experience. I will come back to this topic in some of next posts within my blog.
When we left our twin ship we were hungry. We ate nothing in the course of the sea trip. To find a food source was no problem because we were walking the pier lined with almost continuous chain of restaurants. Soon we anchored in a roofed garden of one of them. Within a moment a waiter stood at our table. We asked him for a menu as well as for something to drink. One glass of lemonade to Vendy (our driver) and two glasses of beer to me and Robert. While the waiter disappeared in the inner part of the restaurant to fulfill our demands, a woman stepped to our table. She did not come with her hands empty. Holding a wide metal dish in her hands she was offering its contents to us. "The fresh fish, just we got them. This species is very tasty. Would not you like having them?" We agreed with her offering.
The fish was tasty really. The sea trip was finished in a stylish way. I think that the fish was the gilt-head (sea) bream. According to The Wikipedia it names Sparus aurata in Latin, it belonged to Sparidae the family. I got two whole fish including their heads on my plate. I was attracted with their flat teeth adapted to crushing hard morsels. The teeth resisted to a thermal process with no damage. I decided to take one or two shots of the two fried fish before than they vanished in my inner man (naturally, with no heads, tails, bones and fins!). Here are their three photos.

V rukou držela širokou kovovou mísu a nabízela nám její obsah.
