I took most of the photos from our driving car during all the comeback. First you can see several shots of the landscape from the section behind the field path. Though the stretch was barren I could find a lot of interesting motives in it continuously.

I tried to catch some views of the landscape in various next turns of the continuous way but mostly they were veiled by clouds. Of course, we were going the standard road in this phase of the drive again.

At the top level the drive was up and down but then the road began to decrease in longer turns lower and lower and the views of a surrounding landscape became more open and more visible. Venda did one stop in a medial part of the vast slopes next to the road. The place was not empty. The right side was forested nearby the road and we could see the typical open sittings under the conical little roofs among tree trunks. They were crowded by groups of people taking a rest or doing a picnic. One solo roofed sitting was on the opposite side of the road as well. The margin of the opposite side was not screened by any tall growth thus giving nice views of the surrounding highlands stretching out deeper under us. The sitting on the opposite side was occupied by a family with one or two smaller children. There were yet two curious things to see on the other side. A clear red old steam roller stood there next to the road like a monument. It screened our views of the family a bit. The second curiosity was a big van or the way of its parking position rather than the car itself. It was taking a slanted position with its front wheels resting on a low smaller rock to the right from the steam roller.
First I made use of the stop to satisfied my previously suppressed need in a bushy growth nearby the road and then I sat down on a grassy place next to our car. I lighted a cigarette and I enjoyed the views of the highlands. The Sun high in the blue sky was burning our faces and arms. It was such an idle while. I have still recalled it with a great pleasure.

Then we continued on in our drive lower and lower through the highlands. From time to time I could glance slanted pastures with herds of cows and more human dwellings began to appear at our sights.
The transition from the more open landscape with hills, forests and pastures to the smaller villages or settlements was fluent and unnoticeable. Gradually the car found itself in a final phase of its drive, i.e. in suburban parts of St. Pierre the town stretching out in the steeper slopes above the coastline.
The boys relied on the GPS navigation. A women´s voice coming out of this invention offered the most effective shortcuts in the actual terrain so that Venda was not forced to use the main and longer road leading to the downtown in the slower way. Often the shortcuts were steep direct narrow lanes and often Venda had doubts about some of them because at the first glance they seemed to be the blind ones but in the end they turned as to be relevant alternatives. Each of the slanted shortcuts was accelerating our climb down to the lower parts of the town.

We wanted to buy something to eat and therefore Venda turned the car to a suburban part where a big supermarket Carefour stood. There was a large parking lot in front of the monstrous trade building but it was almost empty. On Sunday in an evening time we could not expect anything else because the seventh day of the week all the shops were closed in the island. Despite this we tried it thinking that the big supermarket could be opened at least. A time later we succeeded in buying some basal items in one shop at a gasoline pump. Namely, this was the only exception from the rule.
We stayed at the supermarket for a while. While my three partners were sitting in a shadowy place next to the supermarket´s wall I was walking the parking lot about and I was examining and photographing young palms. They were a main decorative element of the large parking lot. Some bore clusters of red fruits at bases of their leafy crowns.
This was last episode on our back way to our base in St Leu the town.

Většinu fotek jsem během celého návratu fotil z jedoucího auta. Nejprve můžete vidět několik záběrů na krajinu za terénní cestou. I když byl ten úsek pustý, dokázal jsem v něm neustále nacházet zajímavé motivy.

Snažil jsem se zachycovat výhledy na krajinu v různých dalších zatáčkách pokračující cesty, ale povětšinou je zahalovaly mraky. Samozřejmě jsme v této fázi jízdy opět jeli po standartní silnici.

Na nejvyšší úrovni byla jízda nahoru a dolů, ale potom začala silnice klesat v táhlejších zatáčkách níž a níž a výhledy na okolní krajinu se stávaly otevřenější a viditelnější. Venda udělal jednu zastávku ve střední části rozsáhlých svahů vedle silnice. Místo nebylo prázdné. Pravá strana byla opodál silnice zalesněná a my jsme mohli mezi kmeny stromů vidět typická otevřená sezení pod kuželovitými stříškami. Zaplňovaly je skupiny lidí, kteří odpočívali nebo piknikovali. Jedno zastřešené sezení bylo také na protější straně silnice. Okraj protější strany neclonil žádný vysoký porost, čímž tak poskytoval hezké výhledy na okolní vysočinu, která se rozprostírala hlouběji pod námi. Sezení na opačné straně zaujímala rodinka s jedním či dvěma menšími dětmi. Na druhé straně byly k vidění ještě dvě zvláštnosti. Vedle silnice tam stál jako pomník jasně červený starý parní válec. Trochu nám clonil výhledy na rodinku. Druhou kuriozitou byl velký náklaďák či spíše než auto samo jeho způsob parkovací pozice. Zaujímal šikmé postavení s předními koly spočívajícími na nízké skalce napravo od parního válce.
Nejdřív jsem zastávky využil k uspokojení dříve potlačené potřeby v křovitém porostu opodál silnice a poté jsem se usadil na travnaté místo vedle auta. Zapálil jsem si cigaretu a užíval si výhledů na vysočinu. Slunce vysoko na modré obloze nám spalovalo tváře a paže. Byla to taková idylická chvilka. Pořád na ni s velkým potěšením vzpomínám.

Poté jsme pokračovali v jízdě níž a níž vysočinou. Tu a tam jsem mohl zahlédnout šikmé pastviny se stády krav a v dohledu se začalo objevovat více lidských obydlí. Přechod od otevřenější krajiny s pahorky, lesy a pastvinami k menším vískám či osadám byl plynulý a nenápadný. Auto se postupně ocitalo ve finální fázi jízdy, tj. v předměstských částech městečka St. Pierre, které se prostíraly ve strmějších svazích nad pobřežní linií. Kluci spoléhali na GPS navigaci. Ženský hlas vycházející z tohoto vynálezu nabízel v aktuálním terénu ty nejefektivnější zkratky, takže Venda nemusel používat hlavní a delší silnici vedoucí do města pomaleji. Zkratky byly často strmé přímé úzké uličky a Venda měl často pochyby o některých z nich, protože na první pohled se zdálo, že jsou slepé, ale nakonec se ukazovaly jako relevantní alternativy. Každá z těch šikmých zkratek náš sestup do nižších částí města urychlovala.

Chtěli jsme koupit něco k jídlu, a proto Venda stočil auto do předměstské části, kde stál velký supermarket Carefour. Před monstrózní obchodní budovou bylo velké parkoviště, ale bylo téměř prázdné. V neděli navečer jsme nemohli očekávat nic jiného, protože sedmý den v týdnu jsou všechny obchody na ostrově zavřené. Přesto jsme to zkusili v domnění, že alespoň velký supermarket by mohl být otevřený. Později jsme v nákupu nějakých základních položek uspěli v krámku u benzínové pumpy. Tohle totiž byla jediná výjimka z pravidla.
Chvíli jsme se u supermarketu zdrželi. Zatímco moji tři parťáci seděli na stinném místě vedle zdi supermarketu, já se procházel parkovištěm a prohlížel si a fotil mladé palmy. Byly jakýmsi hlavním zdobným prvkem rozlehlého parkoviště. Některé nesly při bázích listových korun shluky červených plodů.
Tohle byla poslední epizoda na zpáteční cestě na základnu v St. Leu.
