I think that the extinction of many plants and animals has been ineluctable. The conservationists have been able to easy this trend only, not to stop it. We´ve been prosperous, our numbers have been increasing and if nothing else we´ve still needed more and more space. Any purposeful reduction of our population growth would be against the humanity, against our natural ways. True, there have been the atested ways how to reduce the overpopulation: wars, catastrophes, mass car accidents, malignous diseases etc. but these ways have been somewhat drastic.

The Postmodern times have had their postmodern trends in so called the advanced countries. One of these trends has been an increasing averse from to have a family, still more women and men have preferred a single way of their lives rather then to have a family. They´ve avoided troubles and duties connected with babies, husbands and wives. Perhaps this selfish behaviour could be a sign of a self regulating ability of our civilization. But I rather assume that this tendency has been stylish and temporary. Indeed, you know it yourself: a disappointed love has been doing various tumbles.
On the other hand the Postmodern times have been producting a plenty of persons with various mental disorders and with various steps of the nervous lability or individua unable to do with the obstacles of the family life.

The way of our diet has been ranging from the Japanese sushi, the Chinese fried bugs, the typical national meals (in my case for example the strawberry ´knedlíks´ which are something like dumplings but they aren´t the same) to the plastic sterile meals producted by The McDonald´s, The KFC etc. You could be said that our diet has been colourful and multicultural. You could be said that we´ve eaten in a healthy way. Our table has been fruitfull but in the same time our society has had problems with the overeating and the mental anorexy.

We´ve needed still more and more energy, especially the electrical one, for our existence. Therefore we´ve built still new power stations. Our last hit in this development has been the nuclear power station. We´ve already experienced when some of them failed. Not all people have agreed with them. The tragedy in Czernobyl has been a very strong warning. Consequences of the nuclear catastrophe in Czernobyl have been obvious so far. The power stations fed with coal polluted the air, the hydro power stations have been till now changing our environment by forming large water planes, by disturbing natural flows of rivers and they´ve complicated the regular migrations of some fish and other water inhabitants.

Advances in the molecular biology, the genetics, the genetic engineering and similar scientific branches have seemed to be a great hope for the future. The stem cells could solve many handicaps of the mankind, for example the Alzheimer´s disease or the Parkinson´s disease (very frequent today) as well as many hereditary diseases. The Patriarch Noah has had in hand no genetical tool kit as we´ve had today. The God has told him to build the Ark only. Surely It had to be huge to concentrate all the living beings on Its deckers! (Ye, I know, the Bible has been in symbols only. To take it literally hasn´t been adequate.) Our present genetic knowledge has allowed us to do things unguessed previously in the past thanks to many scientists and their discoveries. More exactly said: there have still remained a lot of unclear questions and problems in this basic research but, no doubt, our knowledge in the biology (especially in the genetics) has increased many times since the Mendel´s times.
From this point of view we can imagine incredible things as the credible or possible ones. Maybe we will be able to save most of animal and plant species. The genetic banks have already existed and they´ve been filled with DNA samples of various animals and plants. The scientists have read still more genoms (the genom is the genetic information of one species) diligently. The reading hasn´t been easy at all. To decipher the basal text of the DNA encoding proteins hasn´t been enaugh. This part of the DNA has been much shorter then its rest known as the junk or dark DNA encoding not structural and funcional proteins but most of all a lot of regulating molecules, for example a flood of shorter or longer kinds of the RNA.The researchers have showed that the DNA has been no one simple book but rather something like a gigantic bookcase full of many volumes being arranged on various places in special shelves. In short, the complete meaning of the DNA information potencials hasn´t still been understood fully. In the meatime the scientists have mazed through the labyrinth and tried to get any orientation or to understand what´s been the system of this living bookcase.

OK, we can store the genoms of any species in our genetic banks. Imagine it. Soon we will be able to take a few of any cells from any living organism and, for example, the elephant will be saved for the future. For the future of the urban Nature. Yes, that its habitats won´t exist already? Never mind. We can product this animal for zoos. We can´t let the elephant to go around our Nature freely. Or, yes, in fact, we can do it but we must modify its behaviour genetically, of course. But then, the elephant won´t be the elephant but the genetically modified elephant.
Or I´ve imagined how we´ll rescue the flies, the spiders, the snakes, the mosquitos, the ticks or else exo and endoparazites intimidating, killing and torturing the mankind over the whole centuries and millennia. We´ve liked mainly the charming creatures and the beautiful plants.We´d like to get rid of the creatures being harmful and unpleasant to the man. The genocide to the creatures in the Pandora´s box!
The futurous urban Nature will be a wonderful world. Will it be wonderful really?

Báječné vyhlídky

Myslím, že zánik mnoha druhů zvířat a rostlin je neodvratný. Ochranáři jsou schopni tento trend jen zpomalit, ne ho zastavit. Daří se nám, naše počty se neustále zvyšují, a když nic jiného, stále potřebujeme další a další prostor. Jakékoliv záměrné snižování našeho populačního růstu by bylo proti lidskosti, proti našim přirozeným způsobům. Pravda, existují vyzkoušené způsoby, jak snížit přelidnění: války, katastrofy, hromadné dopravní nehody, zhoubné nemoci atd., ale tyto způsoby jsou poněkud drastické.

Postmoderní doba má v tzv. vyspělých zemích své trendy. Jedním z těchto trendů je narůstající odpor k zakládání rodiny, stále více žen a mužů preferuje spíše svobodný život než rodinný. Vyhýbají se potížím a povinnostem spojeným

s dětmi, manželi a manželkami. Snad by tohle sobecké chování mohlo být jakousi známkou samoregulační schopnosti naší civilizace. Já si však spíše myslím, že tato tendence je módní a dočasná. Ostatně, znáte to sami: zklamaná láska provádí rozličné kotrmelce.
Na druhou stranu Postmoderní doba produkuje spoustu osob s mentálními poruchami a s různými stupni nervové lability či jedice neschopné se vypořádat s překážkami rodinného života.

Způsob našeho stravování sahá od japonského suši, čínského smaženého hmyzu, typických národních jídel (v mém případě např. jahodové knedlíky, které jsou něco jako noky, ale není to totéž) po umělá sterilní jídla produkovaná McDonaldem, KFC atp..Mohli byste říci, že naše stravování je pestré a multikulturní. Mohli byste říci, že jíme zdravě, ale současně má naše společnost problémy s přejídáním a mentální anorexií.

Pro naši existenci potřebujeme pořád víc a víc energie, zejména elektrické. Proto stavíme stále nové elektrárny. Naším posledním hitem v tomto rozvoji je jaderná elektrárna. Už jsme zažili, když některé z nich selhaly. Ne všichni lidé s nimi souhlasí. Tragédie v Černobylu je velmi silným varováním. Následky jaderné katastrofy v Černobylu jsou až dosud očividné. Elektrárny na uhlí znečišťovaly ovzduší, vodní elektrárny dodnes mění naše životní prostředí vytvářením rozsáhlých vodních ploch, narušováním přirozených toků řek a komplikují pravidelné migrace některých ryb a jiných vodních obyvatel.

Zdá se, že pokroky v molekulární biologii, genetice, genetickém inženýrství a jiných podobných oborech jsou velkou nadějí pro budoucnost. Kmenové buňky by mohly vyřešit mnohá postižení lidstva, např. Alzheimerovu chorobu nebo Parkinsonovu chorobu (dnes velmi časté) a též mnohé dědičné choroby. Praotec Noe neměl v ruce žádné genetické vybavení jako my dnes. Bůh mu jen řekl, aby postavil archu. Určitě musela být ohromná, aby na svých palubách soustředila všechno živé! (Jo, vím, Bible je pouze v symbolech. Brát ji doslova je neadekvátní.) Naše současné genetické vědomosti nám umožňují provádět věci dříve v minulosti netušené díky mnoha vědcům a jejich objevům. Přesněji řečeno: V tomto základním výzkumu pořád zbývá spousta nejasných otázek a problémů, ale naše znalosti v biologii (zvláště v genetice) vzrostly od Mendelovy doby mnohokrát.
Z tohoto hlediska si dovedeme představit neuvěřitelné věci jako uvěřitelné či možné. Možná, že většinu živočišných a rostlinných druhů zachráníme. Genetické banky už existují a plní se vzorky DNA různých zvířat a rostlin. Vědci pilně čtou stále více genomů (genom je genetická informace jednoho druhu). Tohle čtení není vůbec snadné. Rozluštit základní text DNA kódující proteiny nestačí. Tato část DNA je mnohem kratší než její zbytek známý jako balastní či temná DNA, která nekóduje strukturní a funkční proteiny, ale povětšinou spousty regulačních molekul, např. záplavu kratších nebo delších typů RNA. Výzkumníci ukazují, že DNA není jedna prostá kniha, ale spíš něco jako obrovská knihovna plná svazků, které jsou uspořádány na rozmanitých místech ve zvláštních policích. Zkrátka, ůplný význam informačních potenciálů DNA není ještě zcela pochopen. Prozatím tím labyrintem vědci bloudí a snaží se získat nějakou orientaci či porozumět tomu, jaký je systém této živé knihovny.

Fajn, můžeme skladovat genomy jakéhokoliv živého organizmu v našich genových bankách. Představte si to. Brzo budeme schopní odebrat pár buněk z jakéhokoliv organizmu a např. slon bude pro budoucnost zachován. Pro budoucnost městské přírody. Ano, že už jeho lokality nebudou existovat?  Nevadí. Můžeme tohle zvíře vyrábět pro zoologické zahrady. Nemůžeme slona nechat, aby se naší přírodou potuloval volně. Anebo, ano, vlastně to udělat můžeme, ale musíme samozřejmě jeho chování upravit geneticky. Ale pak ten slon nebude slon, ale geneticky upravený slon.
Nebo si představuji, jak zachraňujeme mouchy, pavouky, hady, moskyty, klíšťata nebo jiné exo a endoparazity, kteří zastrašují, zabíjejí a trýzní lidstvo po celá staletí a tisíciletí. Máme radi hlavně roztomilé tvory a krásné rostliny. Tvorů, kteří jsou pro člověka škodlíví a nepříjemní, bychom se rádi zbavili. Genocidu tvorům v Pandořině skříňce!
Budoucí městská příroda bude báječný svět. Bude báječný opravdu?
