The Dam in Slapy

Many water dams in Czech republic have been built up during the past totalitarian regime. This fact has held true for the dam in Slapy, too. Their origins haven´t been connected with a logic need of electricity in this red periode only, also they´ve been connected with the Communist brainwash.

There´s something grim with them to me. V. Mňačko, a late Slovakian writer, depicted the background and circumstances of their building in one of his books in a very apt way. Usually the builders of the water dams have often been under a great press of the Communist leaderships, they´ve been forced to fulfil unreal deadlines. The main builders have often been dying or suffering from heart attacks or they´ve often been discriminated and dehonested when their difficult tasks have been finished.

While the Communist brainwash reined rivers and commanded to wind and rain all the slavery was done by politic prisoners.

Well, the first part of our trip was finished under the Slapy Dam. We didn´t climb up to its top and therefore we didn´t see the large artificial lake behind it. This aritificial lake has been a favourite summer destination to many of The Czech and foreign visitors as well where they´ve been able to camp, to take a swim, in short, where they´ve been able to spend your holidays or vacations.
We didn´t long for a view of people enjoying their free times at this man made sweet water sea. There was only Vltava the river going slowly and silently in long meanders deeply cut between sylvan rocky cliffs under the dam. We were sitting there and ejoying the while.

Slapská přehrada

Mnoho vodních přehrad v České republice bylo vybudováno během minulého totalitního režimu. Tento fakt platí rovněž pro Slapskou přehradu. Jejich původ není spojen jen s logickou potřebou elektřiny v tomto rudém období, jsou též spojeny s komunistickou propagandou.

Pro mne je na nich něco ponurého. L. Mňačko, zesnulý slovenský spisovatel, popsal pozadí a okolnosti jejich výstavby v jedné své knize velmi trefně. Stavitelé vodních děl byli obvykle pod velkým tlakem komunistického vedení, byli nuceni plnit nereálné konečné termíny. Hlavní stavitelé často umírali nebo strádali na srdeční infarkt anebo byli po skončení nesnadných úkolů diskriminováni či deonestováni.

Zatímco komunistická politická propaganda krotila řeky a poroučela větru a dešti, všechnu otrockou práci prováděli političtí vězni.

První část našeho výletu skončila pod slapskou přehradou. Na její vrchol jsme nevystoupili, a proto jsme neviděli ono rozsáhlé umělé jezero za ní. Tohle umělé jezero je oblíbenou letní destinací pro mnoho Čechů a také zahraničních návštěvníků, kde mohou tábořit, plavat, zkrátka, kde mohou trávit svou dovolenou.
Netoužili jsme po pohledu na lidi užívající si volného času u tohoto člověkem vytvořeného sladkovodního moře. Pod přehradní hrází byla jen zvolna a tiše plynoucí Vltava v táhlých meandrech hluboce zařízlých mezi zalesněnými skalnatými srázy. Seděli jsme tam a užívali si té chvíle.
