The Trip in The Rain

On Saturday (3.15.´14) I and my two attendants started going to a trip again, for a longer pause.
My attendants are my son Robert and our mutual friend Venda (or Vašek in Czech). Venda has had a car and me and Robert have been his friends.
We agreed to visit to the area around the Karlštejn castle. The weather failed, from the morning it was cloudy, windy and rainy. But a bad weather has never been any problem to us.
The way to our destination took about one hour. Vendy behind the wheel of his car driven all of us to a parking place near the entrance to the area so called The Big America and The Small America. We left the car and started exploring the area by foot and with a bag only on my shoulders.

A short time after our entering the area my attention was attracted not only by the impressive speedy rocky walls (fig. 1) but also by a plenty of lichens growing abundantly on local bushes and trees, their branches and trunks covered with grey-green and -blue, orange and like sulphur yellow spots of thalluses. Yes, it is really a very optimal place to some species of this remarkable organisms, the symbionts of the algae and the fungus! (fig.2)

All this area is a preserved reservation with many rare plant and animal species. Thanks to the long-termed mine for calcite you can see exposed rocks and lakes in mined pits where the mine was ended up while not too far from them it has been continuing so far.

Our exploration this area continued by slow gradual stepping down to Berounka the river.
Mixed forests with overdominating leafy trees (in our time they´ve still been without leaves) changed in bushy and open terrains. In all woody legs there were a lot of  plants of Hepatica nobilis in flower (fig.3) growing above dry leaves on the ground. Except leaves and flowers of this species I observed in the same places also leaves but no flowers of Asarum europaeum.

I often saw Cornus mass flowering before foliage in bushy terrains. In this time this bush/tree has been one of the earliest blooming woody plants here. (fig.4)

The raindrops kept falling on our heads (yes, a little modified title of the song from the famous movie Butch Casidy and Sundance Kid) and ways were muddy. As we walked alongside a field our shoes resembled an eskimo brown snow(maddy)sues!

After a time a change came: we passed from field traces to a road. There is an ancient oak  about 350 years old in the transitional point. (fig.5)

When I took a picture of the old tree we kept going along the road down a down till we arrived at a restaurant "Under The Dragon´s Rock". Just in time! We were hungry and thirsty and we needed to refresh ourselves. The restaurant seemed to be acceptable to us but there was one problem - the terribly muddy shoes!

A small brook streamed alongside the road and before the restaurant. We tried to wash our dirty shoes in its water with no much great success.
In the pub we found that it was nothing for smokers and ´cause  I´ve been a smoker (and my son a bit too) we decided to stay under a roofed sitting outside where smoking was permitted. The rain didn´t cease.
We ate and quenched thirst very well. I can recommend this restaurant to everybody who will pass it. I had solmon´s filets with american potatoes and it was very tasty. Also my attendants were most satisfied with their meals.
While we were eating, the rain stopped and the Sun started appearing in the sky from time to time.

Then we kept coming down and down in the direction to Karlštejn the castle and Berounka the river.

Soon we passed the castle highly under us not too far to the left.
In a short time we found ourselves in the main street leading up to the castle and down to Berounka the river. As we were coming down I walked as the first with my boys behind my back and Robert called to me: "Take a picture of it!" I turned and I saw a nice view of the castle. I did what my son challenged to. (fig.6)

We followed Berounka the river to the right only shortly. Soon our steps turned to the left and we began to clime up. This was the second phase of our trip, the return to the car waitig for us on the parking place near the pits called The Big America and the Small America. It was a long climing then we stood on the top. I took only two or three pictures during the clime. The first of them is a solitery small bush in which I recognized the rare bush species of  Daphne the genera but it could become wild there ´cause I glanced blooming bushes of this genera in one garden lower in our climing. The second picture I took there showes some species of the touchwoody. They grow on the trunk in almost regular distances in the ascendent way. (fig.8)
On the top we went through the rest of the woody area to a road. This was the last phase of our trip. After several kilometers this road connected us with the car and the circle was closed.


The Czech Version

Výlet v dešti

V sobotu (15.3 ´14) jsme se já a moji dva parťáci opět po delší pauze vydali na výlet. Moji společníci jsou syn Robert a náš společný přítel Venda (česky Vašek). Venda má auto a já s Robertem jsme jeho přátelé. Dohodli jsme se, že navštívíme oblast kolem hradu Karlštejna. Počasí se pokazilo, od rána bylo oblačno, větrno a deštivo. Ale špatné počasí pro nás nikdy nebylo žádný problém.
Cesta na místo určení trvala asi hodinu. Venda nás všechny za volantem svého auta zavezl na parkoviště nedaleko vstupu do oblasti tzv. Velké Ameriky a Malé Ameriky. Opustili jsme auto a zahájili jsme pěší průzkum oblasti s báglem pouze na mých bedrech.
Krátce po vstupu do oblasti mou pozornost upoutaly nejen impozantní strmé skalní stěny (obr.1), ale také množství lišejníků rostoucích hojně na místních stromech a keřích, jejich větve a kmeny pokryté šedozelenými a šedomodrými, oranžovými a sírově žlutými skvrnami stélek.

Ano, je to opravdu velice optimální místo pro některé druhy těchto pozoruhodných organizmů, symbiontů řas a hub! (obr.2)
Celá tato oblast je chráněnou rezervací s mnoha vzácnými rostlinnými a živočišnými druhy. Díky dlouhodobé těžbě vápence můžete vidět odhalené horniny a jezera ve vytěžených lomech, kde byla těžba ukončena, zatímco nepříliš daleko od nich pokračuje až dosud.
Náš průzkum této oblasti pokračoval pomalým postupným sestupem k řece Berounce. Smíšené lesy s převládajícími listnáči (v naší době stále bez olistění) přecházely v křovinaté a otevřené terény. Ve všech zalesněných úsecích byly spousty jaterníku podléšky (Hepatica nobilis) v květu (obr.3) vyrůstající nad suché listy na zemi. Kromě listů a květů tohoto druhu jsem na stejných místech pozoroval také listy, ale ne květy kopytníku evropského (Assarum europaeum).
V křovinatých terénech jsem často viděl svídu dřín (Cornus mass) kvetoucí před olistěním. V této době je zde tento keř/strom jednou z nejčasněji kvetoucích dřevin (obr.4).

Pořád nám pršelo na hlavy (ano, trochu upravený titul písničky ze slavného filmu Butch Casidy a Sundance Kid) a cesty byly blátivé. Když jsme procházeli podél jednoho pole, naše boty připomínaly eskimácké hnědé sněž(blát)nice!
Po čase přišla změna: Přešli jsme z polních cest na silnici. V tom přechodovém bodu je starobylý dub o stáří 350 let. (obr.5)
Když jsem pořídil obrázek toho starého stromu, pokračovali jsme po silnici pořád níž a níž, až jsme dorazili k restauraci "Pod dračí skálou". Právě včas! Měli jsme hlad a žízeň a potřebovali jsme se občerstvit. Zdálo se, že restaurace je pro nás přijatelná, ale byla tam jedna potíž: Ty naše příšerně zablácené boty! Podél silnice a před restaurací protékal malý potok. Pokusili jsme se v jeho vodě špinavé boty oprat s ne moc velkým úspěchem. Uvnitř hospody jsme zjistili, že to není nic pro kuřáky, a protože kuřák jsem (a syn trochu taky), rozhodli jsme se zůstat pod zastřešeným sezením venku, kde bylo kouření povoleno. Déšť neustával.
Najedli jsme se a žízeň uhasili velmi dobře. Mohu tuto restauraci doporučit každému, kdo kol ní bude procházet. Dal jsem si lososí filety s americkými bramborami a bylo to velice chutné. Také moji druzi byli se svými jídly navýsost spokojeni. Zatímco jsme jedli, přestalo pršet a na obloze se tu a tam začalo objevovat Slunce.
Poté jsme pokračovali v sestupu ve směru Karlštejna a Berounky. Brzy jsme míjeli hrad vysoko nad námi nepříliš daleko nalevo. V krátké době jsme se ocitli na hlavní ulici vedoucí nahoru k hradu a dolů k Berounce. Jak jsme sestupovali, šel jsem jako první, kluci byli za mnou, Robert na mě zavolal: "Vyfoť to!" Otočil jsem se a spatřil hezký pohled na hrad. Udělal jsem, k čemu mě syn vyzval. (obr.6)
Berounku napravo jsme sledovali jen krátce. Brzy se naše kroky stočily doleva a začali jsme stoupat. To byla druhá fáze našeho výletu, návrat k autu, které na nás čekalo na parkovišti nedaleko lomů zvaných Velká a malá Amerika. Bylo to dlouhé stoupání, než jsme stanuli na vrcholu. Během výstupu jsem pořídil jen dva nebo tři obrázky. První je osamocený keřík, v němž jsem rozpoznal vzácný keř rodu lýkovec (Daphne), ale mohl tam zplanět, protože níže při výstupu jsem v jedné zahradě letmo zahlédl kvetoucí keře tohoto rodu. (obr.7) Na druhém obrázku je nějaká chorošovitá houba. Vyrůstaly na tom kmeni v téměř pravidelných odstupech vzestupně. (obr.8)
Na vrcholu jsme prošli zbytek zalesněné oblasti k silnici. To byla poslední fáze výletu. Po několika kilometrech nás tato silnice spojila s autem a kruh se uzavřel.
