heat of this species is covered with a grey green slim but here it seemed to be exhausted already.

On A Fetid Mushroom

Our way back to Líský the settlement continued on through the second part of the forest where we found no orchids though my companions saw a panel informing of a habitat with some orchids in this forested section, too. But it had to be somewhere further in the forest and we were under the time press.
Robert noticed the mushroom as the first of us. It grew out of dead leaves and there were flying bigger golden green flies around its heat.

From time to time some flies landed on the heat of the mushroom. I spent a longer while over the mushroom. I tried to photograph more flies on the surface of the heat.

My most successful shot was three flies together on the heat. The heat released a disgusting scent to our noses. Unlike us the flies seemed to have a good time. The smell had to be the best attractant to their sense of smell. It resembled the smell of a decaying meat or proteins.

Z. Freud would be pleased with this phallic symbol as well as with its name in Latin: Phallus impudicus. I would like to listen to his psychoanalytic interpretation of the existence of this remarkable mushroom. This disgusting way of propagation (of course, from the point of the humane view, neither the flies nor the mushroom would agree with my formulation) has been effective in the same way as our most sweet-scented perfumes.

It is up to us, the males, to judge if this mushroom does not offend our male prestige!

O smrduté houbě

Naše zpáteční cesta do osady Líský pokračovala druhou částí lesa, kde jsme žádné orchideje nenašli, i když moji parťáci viděli tabuli informující o lokalitě s nějakými orchidejemi také v tomto zalesněném úseku. Ale musela být někde dál v lese a my jsme byli v časovém presu.

Té houby si jako první z nás všiml Robert. Vyrůstala z odumřelého listí a kol jejího klobouku poletovaly větší zlatozelené mouchy.

Čas od času na klobouku houby některé mouchy přistávaly. Strávil jsem nad houbou delší chvíli. Snažil jsem se vyfotografovat více much na povrchu klobouku.

Můj nejúspěšnější snímek byl tři mouchy pohromadě na klobouku. Pro naše nosy klobouk uvolňoval odporný zápach. Na rozdíl od nás se zdálo, že mouchy se mají báječně. Ten smrad musel být pro jejich čichový smysl tím nejlepším lákadlem. Podobal se zápachu hnijícího masa či bílkovin.

Z. Freud by byl potěšen tímto falickým symbolem a také jeho latinským názvem: Phallus impudicus (hadovka smrdutá). Rád bych si poslechl jeho psychoanalytický výklad existence téhle pozoruhodné houby. Tento hnusný způsob propagace (ovšem, že z lidského hlediska, mouchy ani houba by s mou formulací nesouhlasily) je účinný stejně jako naše nejvoňavější parfémy.

Je na nás posoudit, zda tahle houba neuráží naši samčí důstojnost!
